CARRIE Jones' rise to international stardom has come as no shock to those who know the Welsh star.
The former Newtown High School student is currently on loan at Leicester City from Manchester United.
On Friday night the youngster netted her first goal for Wales in a 1-0 win in Greece which saw the Dragons on the cusp of World Cup qualification going into their final game against Slovenia on Tuesday night.
Coach Paul Inns said: "It was fantastic to see Carrie score her debut goal for Wales against Greece – the winning goal as it turned out – in such an important World Cup Qualifier.
"I had the pleasure of coaching Carrie at Berriew and also at Newtown Academy.
"She was such a superb player to coach – always listening and always motivated to do her best to improve.
"It was obvious she would excel in the sport and I recall saying to people – before she had even received her first Welsh age group cap that she had the potential to be a stand out player for Wales for years to come.
"I’m delighted I have been proven right."
Meanwhile Carrie's proud parents watched the match on TV mum, Joyce, missing the goal due to work commitments.
However Joyce has booked two days off to ensure she is among the crowd cheering on Wales on Tuesday night.
Joyce said: "Both Andrew, I and the family are always extremely proud of Carrie and all she does, from moving from Manchester to Leicester, to going into Wales camp and smashing it.
"We can’t wait to go and support the team on Tuesday night."
