Thousands of students across Powys were relieved and happy to receive their A-Level results after years of studying made more complex by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Among those schools were Welshpool High School and Caereinion High School, as students lined up on August 18 along with the rest of the country, to receive their long-awaited exam results.

The students who received results are among the first to sit their exams since before the Coronavirus outbreak, with the pandemic massively impacting their studying process and altering the way their A-level courses were taught.

Among the students opening their results was Medi Roberts at Llanfair Caereinion, who is heading to Liverpool John Moore’s University to study Pharmacy.

She said: “Obviously I’m very pleased with the results, but I’m honestly more pleased that it’s finally over.

“It’s been a rewarding but difficult few years, because it’s shocking how much Covid has changed what was already a difficult process of learning and studying.

“I knew I’d received an offer from my chosen university so that took a lot of pressure off coming down here to open the results, but it’s still wonderful to finally have them after all that hard work.”

Ed Baldwin, acting head of Caereinion high School, said: “I would like to thank all the pupils for their hard work, perseverance, and resilience during their time in the Sixth Form.

“The pupils are celebrating a fantastic set of results today with their friends and families and should be immensely proud of their results and what they have achieved in difficult circumstances and the return to exams.

“These results not only reflect the excellent effort and attitude of the students but also the hard work and diligence shown by our highly committed teachers, supported, and encouraged by parents and governors.

“All the staff wish them the very best in the future.

Welshpool High School also oversaw a busy results day.

A spokesperson for the school said: “We are delighted by our students who, despite a difficult few years, have been rewarded for their hard work with some excellent results.

“They have been resilient and determined, rising to the challenge of sitting exams again, and we are so proud of their achievements.

“Thank you, also, to the dedicated staff who have helped our students achieve these tremendous results, as well as to parents for their continued support.

“13 students achieved A* to A grades or equivalent in all their subjects.

“This has enabled them to progress to their chosen destinations, including Oliver Inns who will study Physics at Nottingham University, Anna Jones studying Medicine at University of Bristol, and Deiniol Owen taking Biology at University of Sheffield.”
