Powys can expect dry but largely overcast weather for the Jubilee bank holiday weekend, according to Met Office forecasts.

Those hoping for blazing sunshine for the bumper four-day weekend – and in particular those organising or planning to attend street parties – shouldn't get their hopes too high.

But equally, don't expect your bunting to end up drenched in rainwater.

The weather in Newtown is expected to be pretty warm, with temperatures of 19 on Thursday, 18 on Friday, then 17 over the weekend itself.

But while the chance of rain is currently considered pretty low, the sun will only come out every now and again, so enjoy the rays when they appear.

It's a very similar picture in other parts of the county, with Llandrindod seeing temperatures one degree lower, Machynlleth forecast a slightly higher chance of rain on Saturday and Sunday, and Welshpool similar again, but without the prospect of rainclouds on Sunday.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Helen Caughey said: “The main source of uncertainty for the weekend itself is to do with how far a plume of warm air, currently across the continent, encroaches over southern areas of the UK from late on Friday.

"The latest outlook suggests that this plume of warm air could bring a spell of showers to southern areas overnight on Friday and into early Saturday, with some showers hanging around for a time on Saturday. Further showers are likely for southern areas on Sunday, perhaps the odd heavy one, most likely at this stage for the far southeast."
