DAFABET Welsh Premier champions TNS could be on the move.

Plans being drawn up to build a new multi purpose 8,000 capacity sports stadium in Oswestry have received the backing of TNS managing director Mike Harris.

Harris insisted the stadium would help the town’s non league club climb the English football pyramid while also being home to the town’s rugby club.

Welsh Premier champions TNS would also depart Park Hall to play at the new venue.

Harris has promised to bankroll the project which has already been discussed by Sport Oswestry, North Shropshire College, TNS, Oswestry Town Football Club and Oswestry Rugby Club.

Currently all clubs play far outside the town, located at Park Hall the other side of the A5.

Steve Charmley, deputy leader of Shropshire Council said: “It’s easy to cross the A5 but it’s a mental barrier as much as a physical one. It’s just tough getting people out to Park Hall. The rugby club suffers with that, too.”

“You’d need a couple of million to start. Then we’d have to look at who would run it day-to-day. TNS run Park Hall but any new stadium would need to have community involvement.

Harris insisted the stadium was more than a pipedream and his dreams of a state of the art stadium in Oswestry could be achieved.

“I really would like this to happen. I want to get a club into the Football League. It’s the one thing missing off my CV,” said Harris.

“I would support any plan to build a stadium capable of staging group stage games in the Champions League for TNS and Conference football and beyond for FC Oswestry Town.

“I’m sure there will be money available from grants and organisations and councils and my companies would be prepared to pick up the shortfall.

“I’m looking at the town having a top quality stadium and playing surface. If the rugby club wants to have facilities that would be the envy of every club in Shropshire, that would be terrific.”
