ADELE Nicoll was crowned British under 23s women's shot put champion last weekend.

Welshpool’s Queen of Throws was part of the Welsh squad which travelled to Bedford for the annual British under 23s Championship and one of three to claim gold medals.

Nicoll’s throw of 16.24m ensured a comfortable victory for the Cardiff Metropolitan University student and the Birchfield Harrier Athletics Club star’s 15th national title.

Nicoll insisted she would never tire of stepping on the podium and hoped the successful 2017 would continue.

Nicoll has enjoyed a remarkable year so far, winning gold at the BUCS Championship, Welsh Athletics International and Welsh Senior Championships while also claiming bronze medals at the British Indoor Trials, Loughborough International and European Throwing Cup held in Spain.

Nicoll said: “It's amazing to stand on the top spot of podium wearing my Welsh vest representing my country and small town.

“I'm very proud of where I come from and am thankful for all of the support from local people.

“I have a lot of competitions left this season so I'm just trying to get a personal best, that's the main aim.”

Nicoll is one of Wales’ major hopefuls for future Commonwealth Games participation while also a potential future Olympian.

However the 20 year old aims to remain focused and continue to work hard under the tutelage of lead coach Vladimir Zinchenko and coach Adrian Palmer.

“I set myself small challenges every day which will hopefully lead to where I want to be,” said Nicoll.
