WELSHPOOL Ladies Rugby Club has gone from strength to strength this season.

The team had been on the verge of folding with just three members 18 months ago but end the current campaign with 22 registered players and several more keen to sign.

The side played their first match against Llangollen last month and scored four tries in a 21-20 defeat which represented the majority of the Pool squad’s debut.

Spokesperson Becca Humphreys said: “New ladies of all abilities and experience have consistently showed their interest in the team throughout the season and the development has been fantastic with the team ensuring a welcoming and friendly social atmosphere for everyone.”

A new kit, sponsored by Shropshire Pressure Washers was presented to team captain Rebecca Humphreys, alongside the sponsor’s daughter and teammate, Sammy-Joe Mapp Lorimer and team coach Rhys Roberts.

The ladies team are continuing training throughout the summer and are still encouraging new members to the club for weekly training sessions, every Thursday from 7-8.30pm.
