Central Wales Cup, quarter-final

Penrhyncoch 5

Llanrhaeadr 3

PENRHYNCOCH set aside their season long battle against relegation with a hard-fought victory over Llanrhaeadr booking a date in the semi-finals of the Central Wales Cup.

The Roosters made a string of changes and Llanrhaeadr capitalised on their hosts jaded opening as Tom Evans pounced to net on 10 minutes after Iain Edmunds shot came back off the woodwork.

The hosts levelled through an own goal before leading when Sion James headed home Mark Gornall’s free-kick.

Llanrhaeadr replied with a 25 yard strike from Dale Evans to restore parity but the home side edged ahead just before the interval with Sion Meredith this time on the end of another Gornall set piece.

Penrhyncoch pulled away after the break with Owain James on target before Meredith completed his brace.

Llanrhaeadr had the final say and deservedly reduced the arrears late on through Iwan Matthews but it was too late to prevent Penrhyncoch marching on.

PEBRHYNCOCH: L Jenkins, Evans, S James, Mansell, Mousley, Lemon , O James, Meredith, Gornall, Horwood, J Shaw. Subs: Jacques, Shaw, Newton, Lewis.
