Central Wales Cup, quarter finals

CAERSWS hit back to prevail 3-1 winners over local rivals Llanidloes Town tp book their place in the semi-finals of the Central Wales Cup on Tuesday.

The Daffodils capitalised on the hosts lacklustre opening with Rhys Evans drilling his side ahead from 20 yards on 18 minutes and the Spar Mid Wales League One side continued to threaten.

Caersws were guilty of wasteful finishing as Steff Davies, Mike Collister and Iwan Lewis all spurned openings in the first-half before hitting back after the break with a fine individual strike from Josh Hartrick.

George Clarke blazed over the bar with just Blues goalkeeper Luke Evans to beat as Llanidloes sought an immediate reply but instead found themselves trailing when Collister slotted home from Sean Evans’ free-kick.

Llanidloes attacked with purpose as Rhys Evans, Ed Clarke and Josh Matthews tested home stopper Evans while Sean Evans spurned a chance to settle the contest when he fired over at the other end.

However Caersws were not to be denied and sealed glory with 15 minutes remaining with Rhydian Davies slotting home after linking with Hartrick and Evans.

Caersws will take on Spar Mid Wales League One leaders Rhayader Town in the semi-final with the winners facing either Penrhyncoch or the surprise package of the season in Aberaeron.
