Berriew and Carno set to meet criteria

BERRIEW have been given the green light for promotion to the Huws Gray Alliance.

Meanwhile fellow applicants Carno are set to complete all works this weekend ahead of their second inspection next week.

Both clubs have applied to join the Huws Gray Alliance, joining Spar Mid Wales League One leaders Rhayader Town and rivals Llanrhaeadr, Llandrindod Wells and Knighton Town in underlining their ambitions.

With new ground tier two criteria coming into force at the end of next season, level three clubs from the Spar Mid Wales League, North Wales Coast Alliance and Wrexham Area League, have been scrambling to make the step up this year.

It is expected all three will provide a promoted club, meaning four clubs will be relegated from the Huws Gray Alliance this season.

Clubs must end in the top two of their respective leagues and meet ground criteria to be accepted in the Alliance with both Berriew and Carno confident of achieving their goals.

Berriew, a beneficiary of £17,000 from the Welsh Football Association Trust (FAWT) last month will install two new stands to bring Talbot Field up to code for the Alliance.

However the current facilities have been provisionally passed for next season.

Manager David Jones said: “Our ground was inspected quite a while ago now and passed the Huws Gray Alliance ground criteria for next season and we have no works to do.”

Meanwhile Carno manager Chris Davies confirmed works were ongoing with the club confident Ty Brith would pass the final inspection.

Davies said: “We had an initial inspection before Christmas and there were only a few things needing doing.

“We are set to complete the outstanding items this weekend and we are due for an inspection next week.”

Davies has also boosted the Greens by completing a u-turn on his  previous decision to step down as manager at the end of the season and will continue at the helm next season with promotion to the Alliance the aim.
