PENRHYNCOCH claimed a potentially vital point in their battle for survival as reward for a battling display on Deeside.

Flint began the match with intent but had to wait until the 28th minute for their pressure to yield its reward as Stewart Carroll released Kyle Smyth and Joe Culshaw on the right to combine at set up James Hooper to slot home.

The Roosters hit back within three minutes with the evergreen Sion Meredith heading home Liam James’ right wing cross.

Lee Jenkins kept the score level at the break with a fine fingertip save to tip John Davies’ headed effort over the bar.

Penrhyn looked to attack on the break in the second-half with Jonny Evans racing onto Matt Mousley’s throughball to test home goalkeeper Ben Jones on 47 minutes.

Penrhyn captain Antonio Corbisiero had an eventful half, first blocking a Smyth shot on the line before heading wide from Dafydd Carruthers cross at the other end.

Flint’s pressure almost told late on with substitute Adam Edgar drilling just wide before Andy Brown’s hooked shot goalward was cleared off the line by Corbisiero to seal the Roosters’ hard earned point.

PENRHYNCOCH: Jenkins, E Evans, Mousley, S James, L James, Gornall, Mansell, Meredith, Carruthers, J Evans, Corbisiero. Subs: Shaw, Doherty, Horwood, Lemon, Thomas
