NEWBRIDGE kept alive their second division promotion bid with a 6-1 victory at home to derby rivals Penybont.

Alfie Stonefield, Ollie Woods and Aeron Powell shared the limelight with braces each for the Bridgemen while Jake Bufton reduced the arrears with the Polecats consolation.

However Borth United maintained pole position to join leaders Kerry in the top flight of Mid Wales football next season following a 1-0 victory over Llansanttfraid Village.

Liam Lewis scored the only goal of the game as the Magpies closed the gap on Kerry to six points with both clubs having five games left of their league programme.

Abermule held out for a 2-1 win at Four Crosses who ended the match with 10 men.

Teenager Jack Weaver was joined on the scoresheet by Adam Williams before Crosses reduced the arrears through Gaz Jones but the hosts could not complete their fightback with their hopes ended with the dismissal of Hamish Clifton 10 minutes from time.
