CHAZ Davies is targeting his first win of the year in Thailand this weekend.
The Presteigne ace leads the Aruba.it Racing Ducati team to the Chang International Circuit for the second round of the World Superbike Championship (WSBK) on the back of two second place finishes in round one in Australia last month.
Davies will also look to improve on his one third placed finish in Thailand last year as he seeks to maintain his challenge of Kawasaki’s dominance of the sport.
Davies said: “We started the year well and I can’t wait to get back on track. In retrospect, I don’t think we’ve ever really been in the ballpark with the setting in Thailand and, knowing what we know, we understand better how to stay within our window.
“I’m quite excited to try the 2017-spec Panigale R there as I think the long straights are going to be less of a problem because we made some improvements in terms of power.
“The track is hard on tyres and racing is going to be tough because of the heat, but there’s a lot to look forward to.”
Davies is so far relishing his deserved tag as championship contender and insisted he could cope with the added pressure.
“I don’t think Chang’s long straights will be an obstacle like they were in the past, we have made progress in terms of power. The track demands a lot of the tyres and racing there is always difficult because of the heat, but expectations are high.”
