Inter Association Cup
MAX McLaughlin came off the bench to earn Central Wales their first ever Regions Cup point in a 2-2 draw with North East Wales at Newtown on Wednesday.
The hosts led on 25 minutes when Stuart Emberton’s corner was only cleared as far as Joe Haycock whose weighted cross back into the area was dispatched by Steff Rowlands.
Central Wales dictated the remainder of the first-half but failed to extend their lead as the North East Wales side showed resolve.
North East Wales hit the ground running after the break and levelled on 55 minutes when Matt Sutherland lobbed Simon Hamer after the hosts failed to clear a cross.
Ten minutes later Ross Sumner lashed NEWFA ahead, leaving Hamer with no chance as his shot found the net via the crossbar.
CWFA manager Clive McNamee introduced Churchstoke striker McLaughlin and the hosts managed to get back on top and deservedly hit back to level with five minutes remaining.
McLaughlin was fed by Trewern’s Barry Haralambous before beating two NEWFA defenders and slotting home.
The hosts almost snatched a last gasp winner when Maesyrhandir’s Jodeci Dean broke from deep only to lash wide of target as CWFA celebrated a point.
