Central Wales Cup Fourth Round

CARNO’S progress to quarter-finals of the Central Wales Cup was marred by a serious injury to goal scorer Gregg Brown in their 2-1 win over Borth United on Saturday.

Brown had fired Carno ahead with a thumping 25 yard strike before Borth hit back to level through Ben Jones.

However on the stroke of half-time Brown went down in agony with a ruptured knee ligament, prompting physiotherapists from both benches to action.

An agonising wait of  over an hour for an ambulance followed before the emergency services finally arrived at Latham Park to take over treatment and convey Brown to hospital.

Following the resumption of play the Spar Mid Wales League One side secured glory and a place in the next round with Peter Rees ensuring the Greens kept one hand on the trophy.

“We got the result we wanted on the night but it’s come at a price for us with the injury to Gregg Brown,” said manager Chris Davies. “It's a big loss for us as he's one of our key players.

“I speak for everyone when I wish him a speedy recovery and would like to thank everyone on his behalf for the kind message we've received.”

Caersws made light work of Llansantffraid Village to claim their last eight berth.

Will Thomas netted a brace for the Bluebirds while further goals from Mark Griffiths and Mike Collister ensured a comfortable afternoon and a 4-0 win at Treflan.

Goals from Gareth Evans and Mattie Davies earned Aberaeron a 2-0 win at Montgomery Town while Llanrhaeadr and Churchstoke served up a 10 goal thriller an Tanllan.

Tom Evans led the hosts with a brace of goals while Kieran Evans, Marc Griffiths and an own goal was not enough as Churchstoke hit back with a Joe Haycock double and strikes from Trevor Dunham, Andrew Green and Kieran Harris to force penalties.

The stage was set for Dan Kelly to win the day with the decisive spot kick as Llanrhaeadr booked a date in the last eight.

Meanwhile the ties involving Radnor Valley and Tywyn Bryncrug and Llanidloes Town’s trip to Dolgellau Athletic were victims of the weather.

Llanfair United withdrew from the cup after failing to raise a side for their trip to Rhayader Town.
