A builder, who punched another man who allegedly made a remark about his child, has been fined by magistrates.

Ynyr Edwards, 23, of Llanwrin, Machynlleth, admitted assaulting Thomas Byrne when appearing on Tuesday at Welshpool Magistrates’ Court.

On September 8, Mr Byrne entered The Bowling Club, Machynlleth, where the defendant was sitting at the bar.

The pair had previous history and had not spoken for 12 months.

Edwards went outside, and Mr Byrne followed him, believing some damage could be caused to his car.

The complainant stood in the doorway and Edwards was standing near his car, and words were exchanged.

Edwards said: "let's have it out."

Mr Byrne went back inside, followed by Edwards who punched him in the face.

In interview he said he went out for a cigarette, words were exchanged and Mr Byrne tried to wind him up.

Edwards alleged the complainant said his child "looked like chucky”.

No injuries were received by the complaint and Rhian Jones, prosecuting, added Edwards had been made subject of a custodial sentence for two assaults.

Edwards, representing himself, said he should not have reacted that way, but he was angry the complainant had spoken about his child that way.

He also alleged Mr Byrne had asked for £200 from Edwards to drop the charges.

Edwards was fined £300, and ordered to pay £85 costs, and a £30 victim surcharge.
