RYAN Cook has received his international caps after representing Wales in the Learning Disability Under 19s Home Nations Championship in Scotland.

The young footballer, who attened Ysgol Cedewain in Newtown, received his caps from Liverpool and Wales legend Ian Rush who praised the side for their accomplishments.

The caps recognised Cook’s involvement with the Welsh LD squad over the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons.

After losing the first game to the Republic of Ireland, Wales played eventual champions Scotland in the second game securing a 2-2 draw with and 2-2 draw with Northern Ireland.

Mike Parry, Wales LD head coach said “I was immensely proud of the boys achievements during the week.

“After losing the first game the togetherness shown by the squad was great to see.

“Due to the nature of LD football, there is a big ability gulf between the players within the squad, some players playing to a very high standard and others with limited 11 v 11 experience.

“Every player showed their worth throughout the week doing their part for the team both on and off the pitch. The pride and passion of representing Wales was there for all to see.”

The Welsh squad received their caps at the Football Association of Wales Trust (FAWT)  headquarters in Newport.

Jamie Clewer of the FAWT said: “It was a fantastic afternoon with the squad for their cap presentation, thanks to Ian Rushfor his inspiring talk to the boys.”
