PICTURE SPECIAL: Cheltenham Festival 2012

Reporter:

WORDS: Richard Jones PICTURES: Phil Blagg

COUNTY Times chief photographer Phil Blagg narrowly escaped serious injury at this year's Cheltenham Festival when a horse careered through the railings into a section of photographers.

Guilsfield man Phil was one of 30 photographers on the inside rail of the fourth to last fence when Wishfull Thinking, under Richard Johnson, crashed through the rail towards him.

Thankfully, light footed Phil managed to hop out of the way in the nick of time and return with a fabulous selection of photographs from the four day festival.

His pictures include that of Hector's Choice, who is owned by Welshpool business man James Potter and trained by Presteigne man Richard Lee.

And former Llanfair Caereinion High School music teacher, turned jockey, Shan Cothi, who rode Langley in the St Patrick's Day Derby charity race in aid of Cancer Research UK.

He also got shots to remember of Gold Cup winner Synchronised, under Tony McCoy, and racing great Kauto Star, under Ruby Walsh.

Got a moment to spare? Why not take a look through Phil Blagg's favourite Cheltenham Festival photographs?
