Clywedog Sailing Club has been given a cash boost to buy a public access defibrillator outside the clubhouse.

The Hafren Dyfrdwy Community Fund has awarded the club a grant worth almost £10,000 as part of the water company’s commitment to support local communities in their region.

The community project is run by volunteers and serves the locals of Llanidloes, Newtown, Machynlleth and Welshpool, who come to enjoy sailing, canoeing and paddle boarding activities. Despite its remote location, the wider site also receives a large volume of visitors each year.

The grant will provide the club with a public access defibrillator outside the clubhouse, which will make a huge difference in safety and reassurance for all who visit and could be potentially lifesaving in an emergency situation.

Jade Gough from the Hafren Dyfrdwy Community Fund, said: “Clywedog Sailing Club is in a remote location where emergency services are a little harder to get immediate hold of. We want to enable the club to continue to support their visitors, providing the site’s qualified first aid employees and volunteers more facilities to give peace of mind and ensure the safety of all who visit.”
