In record beating weather temperatures and conditions the 28th Elan Valley Show and Sports took place on Bank Holiday Monday at the Noyadd Farm by kind permission of Olwyn Morgan and family.

Large crowds turned out in the bright sunshine to participate in the event where there were large entries in the horse section as well as the sheep classes. In addition there were larger than ever entries in the dog show. Entrants came from far and wide to participate in all the sections on the day.

The one down side to the event was the fact that this year the familiar face of the late John Morgan of the Noyadd Farm was not there. John, who had been a keen and active supporter of the show since it started, sadly passed away last December. The committee paid tribute to what he did for the show over the years and said he was sadly missed this year.

During the day there was plenty on offer as well as the animal classes for people to see. In the marquee classes there were entries in the floral section, cookery classes as well as horticultural, craft and children’s classes.

There was also entertainment by the Wye Valley Axemen with their displays of speed, skill and accuracy. There was also a static display by the Valley View Falconry plus a number of side stalls and other entertainment for all ages.

For the children there was an on going bubble garland display plus face painting and glitter tattoos. In all the whole event was a resounding success and thoroughly enjoyed by all those who attended the event.

The day concluded with shearing competitions for all ages and a speed shearing competition with some £600 in prize money.

Show secretary Christine Davies said following the event that “it was one of the best shows since we started”.
