Firefighters have spent more than 30 hours attending a fire at a farm near Adfa.

Crews from Llanfair Caereinion, Newtown, Welshpool, Llanfyllin, Montgomery and Llandrindod Wells were called to the blaze at 12.24am on Tuesday, August 27.

A large barn and a telehandler were completely destroyed by the fire which exceeded 1,100°C.

Fire crews from Llanfyllin dampened down the hot spots on Tuesday afternoon, then a crew from Llanfair Caereinion monitored the barn overnight on Tuesday as a precaution due to the proximity of other farm buildings. The crew were relieved by firefighters from Welshpool who are continuing to monitor the incident.

"We would like to thank the farmers for their hospitality to attending crews," a Llanfair Caereinion fire crew member tweeted.

Images from the scene showed the scale of the fire, with a barn containing straw well alight, as firefighters try to bring it under control.

Station Manager Andrew Richards, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “The crews worked extremely hard and professionally to prevent the fire from spreading to the adjacent buildings.”
