A MAN from Holywell has admitted being drunk and disorderly while on a night out in Chester.

Robert Wery, 54, of Well Street, pleaded guilty at Chester Magistrates Court on Friday, October 12 to being drunk and disorderly in Foregate Street and resisting police officer Rebecca Priest while being arrested on the night of June 2.

Captor gas had to be used on Wery, who had 52 previous convictions.

Magistrates fined Wery £200.

Prosecuting, Alan Currums said it was at 12.50am when a man approached police in Foregate Street saying there was a disturbance happening outside the River Island store.

They arrived and saw Wery with a woman on the floor and he was shouting at her: "Just give me the hotel key," while she was visibly upset.

Police told Wery to step back but he refused and became increasingly agitated, saying to officers: "I don't need to give you my details."

Extra officers were called to arrest Wery, who was intoxicated and unco-operative, swearing at officers and kicking out when handcuffs were to be placed on him.

The captor gas was used, which had a positive effect, and he was arrested.

Defending, Stephen Fearns said Wery had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity and, while he had a number of offences on his record, there were not many in recent years.

Wery could not really remember the offence but did offer his apologies and was very remorseful.

As well as the £200 fine, Wery must pay £85 court costs and a £30 victim surcharge.
