WELSHPOOL Music Club start their 75th anniversary season with international soloist and chamber musician, Steinway Artist pianist Simon Callaghan at the town’s the Methodist Church hall at 7.30pm next Thursday, October 11.

Simon’s recent tours have taken him to Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, throughout Europe and on two occasions to the Banff Centre in Canada. He has performed at all of the UK’s major concert halls including Wigmore Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall, Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, St David’s Hall Cardiff and Manchester’s Bridgewater and Stoller Halls, and has broadcast on Radio 3.

At Welshpool he will be playing Mozart, Poulenc and Schubert.

Entry is £10 but there is still the opportunity to join the club for 2018-2019 for £40 getting all five concerts for the price of four through to next March.

The North Wales duo Mary Hofman (violin) and Richard Ormrod (piano) will play on November 15; New York based musical ensemble Mirror Visions will play on January 17; one of the UK’s leading young string quartets The Piiatt Quartet will play on February 21; and the final concert on March 14 will feature Chris Swann and Heather Gould exploring the clarinet family and some of its repertoire in “The Instrument of the Devil”.

“The Music Club was founded in 1942 sand this is our 75th season but it needs new members if it is to continue to offer its programme of performances by top class musicians,” said a club spokesperson.

“The concerts offer a large variety of music, instrumental and vocal. We aim to provide an exciting and varied range of music by musicians of the highest calibre. Many of our performers have gone on to make their name in the musical world.

“So come and hear these fine musicians at a fraction of the cost you would pay to hear them at other venues and enjoy the opportunity of talking with them over tea or coffee on the evening. All the concerts are held in the Methodist Church and start at 7.30pm. The entry price for each concert is £10 but membership is on offer at £40 for the season. This may be purchased now by contacting Margaret Harvey at 23 High Street, Welshpool, SY21 7JP: telephone 01938 559087: e-mail: Margaret @montgomeryshire.eu; on on Thursday night.”

If you miss the first concert then a similar offer, for four concerts for the price of three, will be available at the November concert. For students the prices are £5 for the whole year or £2 per concert. Full details can be found at (www.welshpoolmusicclub.com)
