Welsh international rugby star Dan Lydiate, whose family runs a sheep and beef farm near Llandrindod Wells, has become the first face of Farmers Weekly's 'Fit2Farm' health campaign.

In his cover interview, he told the farming magazine that farming has a lot in common with rugby.

He said: "Health and wellbeing is a massive issue - not just in farming but in rugby too.

"They are both macho industries where people don't always want to talk about their feelings - or show any weakness by admitting they might be struggling."

He went on to say that "farmers don't like to talk" about things they may be worried about, such as feed shortages in the summer due to the dry weather, and what this will mean for feeding stock.

Dan said: "Farmers are probably the hardest workers I know.

"But if you work hard you've got to play hard too - you've got to enjoy things too.

"Otherwise you go through life and you will miss out on your kids growing up.

"You've got to make time for yourself."

Dan will share will share his insight and experience with Farming Weekly readers over the coming weeks and months.
