SOME of Wales’ finest comedy actors make up the cast of a new production of Joe Orton’s satirical comedy “Loot” which comes to Newtown’s Hafren theatre this Saturday night, October 6.

“Loot” has the perception and attitude to death by people in the mid 20th century as its main theme as Dennis works for an undertaker and Hal’s old mum has just died.

Ludicrous slapstick meets dubious morals as the two young friends stash the proceeds of a bank robbery in Hal’s mums coffin while they try to avoid a crazed policeman, a gold-digging nurse and a grieving widower.

With the money safely hidden, there’s no place for ‘Mum’ whose body keeps re-appearing at inopportune times and the two thieves stumble their way through with hilarious consequences.

The tour is staged by Black RAT Productions and Blackwood Miner’s Institute supported by Arts Council Wales.

Black RAT Productions is now in its 11th year creating and touring dynamic and accessible theatre. Orton’s dark comedy masterpiece is directed by Richard Tunley, and the talented cast welcomed back Julie Barclay as Mrs McLeavy, Sam Davies as Truscott, Sarah- Jayne Hopkins as Fay, Rick Yale as Hal and Lee Gilbert as Meadow. joined by Black RAT newcomers John Cording as McLeavy, and Gareth Tempest as Dennis.

The production has an age suitability of 14plus. Tickets for Newtown cost £12 from the box office on 01686 614555.

“Loot” will also be coming to Neuadd Dwyfor, Pwlheli, on Tuesday, October 23; Aberystwyth Arts Centre on Wednesday, October 30, and Theatr Brycheiniog, Brecon, on Saturday, November 10.

The exceptional chamber orchestra Sinfonia Cymru will be at The Hafren next Friday, October 12, with an inspiring programme of well loved classics including Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, and Barber’s Adagio for Strings, plus Grieg’s Holberg Suite, and “October” by Eric Whitacre.
