A Newtown beauty queen will be competing for the chance to represent Wales at a worldwide pageant taking place next year.

Shelley Ann Simmons will representing Powys as “Miss Powys Galaxy” at the event in March 2019, which is to be held in Preston, Lancashire, competing for the title of “Miss Galaxy Wales” alongside other hopefuls from around the country.

Should she be successful, Shelley Ann will go on to represent Wales at a worldwide event held in Orlando, Florida, later in the year.

“I won my first title of Miss Powys 2017 in my first pageant last year which was ‘Miss Wales’. After falling in love with the world of pageantry I applied for Miss Galaxy and I am thrilled to announce that I have been offered a place in the grand finals representing Powys as ‘Miss Powys Galaxy’ in March 2019,” she said.

In the lead up to the event Shelley says she will be raising money for UK cancer charity “The Christie”, starting with a fundraising fun pageant day for ages 4-17, to be held on Saturday, November 17.

“The aim of the pageant is for young girls to experience the pageant world, build confidence and feel beautiful inside and out,” added Shelley Ann.
