THE last chance to get a sneaky peak at the latest phase of the building of the brand new railway station in Caernarfon is on this weekend.

Residents of the town are invited to see inside the latest development of the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways' new station building on September 29 and 30.

At the same time as getting a look at the building, mid development, they will also get to see a colourful railway poster art exhibition.

As part of the railway's celebration of 21 years since the rebirth of the Welsh Highland Railway, and the commencement of passenger services between Caernarfon and Dinas, the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway commissioned local and railway artists to enter a poster competition with the brief of ‘views from the train’ or ‘train from a location’.

Judges chose their favourite posters, now on display. After this weekend they will then be on show at the temporary Caernarfon Station until the end of October.

The new building has been 11 years in development. It has cost in the region of £3m and boasts a first for the region, a state of the art "Changing Places," toilet and facility for disabled people which has cost around £10,000.

The new building is set for completion in December, in time for Santa trains.

Paul Lewin General Manager of the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways said: "This weekend offers people the chance to have a sneak preview of the building mid development. The building itself has cost in the region of £3m and we are very grateful to the Welsh Government's ERDF fund. We hope to be fully operational by the time the Santa trains start in December.

"I'm really delighted with posters we received and it's a chance of the public to see them in an exhibition. The quality and variety has far surpassed expectations. Now they are mounted you realy can see how effective they are. All the artists did a fantastic job and put such a lot of work in."
