IF you have ever wanted to visit some of Wales’s most iconic castles, abbeys and historic homes, but are on a tight budget, now is your chance to visit for free.

There is an opportunity to explore popular Cadw heritage attractions thanks to the 'Open Doors' initiative.

Funded and organised by Cadw, the annual festival celebrates Wales’s unique history and offers free access to more than 300 properties during September.

Next weekend, September 29 -30, some 26 of Cadw’s heritage sites will allow thousands of visitors to be granted free, un-ticketed access.

Beaumaris Castle, which feature among the top 10 most visited Cadw sites, is just one of the heritage venues taking part.

Open Doors has already welcomed thousands of visitors this month to a range of special events and activities.

Cadw’s free weekend are complemented by a programme of expert guided tours to mark the end of the festival.

Minister for Culture, Tourism and Sport, Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas, said: “Cadw is committed to making Wales’ heritage accessible to everyone and Open Doors is a brilliant way to showcase our iconic heritage sites, but also our hidden, and perhaps less obvious, historic gems.
