POLICE are advising motorists in the Bangor and Caernarfon areas to ensure their vehicles are secure following a recent spate of thefts.

Over the last 10 days North Wales Police have received several reports of thefts from vehicles in the Parc Menai, Penrhosgarnedd, Siliwen, High Street and Cibyn areas whereby opportunist thieves have stolen items that have been left on display.

Sergeant Catherine Walker said: “We are investigating these incidents and seeking to find those responsible. Whilst we continue with these efforts, I would urge people to help us by removing any items and securing their vehicles.

“We’ve found that the majority of these thefts have occurred via insecure vehicles, giving the thief the perfect opportunity to strike – even a jacket left on the backseat of a car is tempting enough.

“The majority of vehicle crime is avoidable. It only takes a few seconds to remove valuables and lock your vehicle, please don’t make it easy for opportunist thieves.”

If you know of someone who is committing car crime, or involved in the selling of stolen goods, please contact North Wales Police on 101 or via the live web chat. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
