A FLINTSHIRE town has celebrated after winning a regional award.

Holywell has recently received the Wales in Bloom Silver Award 2018, taking third place in Class Four - town.

Town councillors Joe and Sue Johnson collected the award which is the regional element of the National Britain in Bloom Competition supported by the Royal Horticultural Society.

The aim of the award is encourage volunteers in areas across Wales to improve their local environment.

A spokesman for Holywell town council said: "Thank you to all who have helped especially the schools, the businesses and the residents of Panton Place for getting involved."

Holywell councillors and residents also welcomed representatives from the town's twin town St Gregoire, Brittany and accepted a gift from Gordon Barnabus BEM at the offices.

This comes as part of a surge of good news for the town as it has recently been announced that the local high street has been shortlisted for the national award for Best High Street 2018.
