Organisers have expressed their disappointment after Nantmel Show was cancelled due to bad weather today.

Powys was struck by two Atlantic storms over the early part of this week, and the high winds and heavy rain have left the show ground unsuitable for the event, which was due to take place on Saturday.

Show secretary Julia Lewis said they were disappointed at having to call the event off but were left with no choice after efforts to prepare the field at Maes-y-Gelli Farm were frustrated by the conditions, leaving them no choice but to make the decision to cancel the show this afternoon (Thursday 21).

"We've had to cancel due to bad weather I'm afraid," she said

"We tried on Wednesday to get the marquee up but we couldn't manage it in the conditions and it was the same again today so we reluctantly took the decision to call the show off.

"It's only the second time in 41 years it's happened so we've been quite lucky really over the years but unfortunately it wasn't meant to be on this occasion."

The show had been due to feature a host of entertainment in addition to the traditional horse, sheep, dog and craft classes, including Panic Circus and the popular Wye Valley Axemen.

Show president was due to be Margaret Thomas, who had been involved with Nantmel Show since it was first organised in 1977.

Organisers confirmed there are no plans to reschedule the event for this year.
