Ladies' Day – Tanat Theatre's next production, opening on 28 September – is billed as 'an exuberantly up-to-the-minute comedy’, and bursts on to the stage this week at The Green School Little Theatre, Llanrhaeadr ym Mochnant with all the life of a well-shaken champagne.
As full of broad humour as it is of northern accents, Ladies Day follows the fortunes of a fish-filleting foursome who exchange the factory floor for the racecourse when Royal Ascot comes to York. In the ensuing explosion of hats, heels, and dropped aitches, shy Linda, blousy Shelly, Jan the proud-parent, and Pearl – who has a history she’s not sharing – raise their glasses but spill their dreams and secrets on the turf. It all comes right in time for the charabanc home, of course, making Ladies’ Day an odds-on, feel-good favourite.
There are six performances in The Green School Little Theatre, Llanrhaeadr ym Mochnant, at 7:30pm on Friday and Saturday September 28 and 29, October 5 and 6, and 12 and 13.
