IN the words of C.S. Lewis: "Eating and reading are two pleasures that combine admirably", so there can be few better places to be on Saturday than in Narberth to visit both Narberth Book Fair and Narberth Food Festival.

Narberth Book Fair takes place in the Queens Hall between 9.30am and 4pm, and brings together 45 authors from across Wales and beyond, representing every genre and all ready to chat, sign and sell their books.

It is being organised by local writers Judith Barrow and Thorne Moore, and Judith said: "We're happiest in the company of book-lovers, and excited to be meeting new readers as well as re-acquainting with old friends.

Writers attending this year's event include detective fiction writers, Jan Newton and Cheryl Rees-Price, who will be joining Thorne Moore for a panel discussion, On the Trail, at 10am in the Balcony Room.

Carmarthenshire-based Sally Spedding and John Nicholl are also teaming up with fellow psychological crime writer, Phil Rowlands, for a group talk entitled All in the Mind at 11am.

To celebrate the centenary of women first getting the vote, Judith Barrow - author of One Hundred Tiny Threads -- and Carol Lovekin - author of Snow Sisters - will be discussing the political struggles of women and their depiction in literature at 2pm.

Children's writers are well represented, including Angela Fish and Sharon Tregenza. A special Are You Sitting Comfortably story-time session from noon to 2pm will include award-winning children's author, Wendy White, reading from her latest book, Mamgu's Campervan, and science fantasy whizz, Colin Parsons.

This year, the fair will be supporting the charity Burns By Your Side, through merchandise sales and a raffle. The charity trains volunteers and their companion dogs to go into schools and hear children read.

Entry to the fair is free, as are all the associated talks and readings.
