An extended scope practitioner at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital will be completing in at least nine runs to raise money for a children’s charity.

Claire Sproston, who works within Children's Outpatients at the hospital, will be taking part in a series of 10ks, half marathons, marathons and an ultra-marathon to raise money for Steps Charity.

Steps are a national charity that support and provide information to those whose lives are affected by childhood lower limb conditions such as hip dysplasia and clubfoot.

Steps support approximately 50 per cent of the patients who are seen by the Orthopaedic's Children's Outpatients team and their families by offering a national telephone helpline, online forum, information literature, a family contacts service and much more.

Claire started her running challenge earlier in the summer when she completed the Potters Arf Marathon, Shrewsbury Half Marathon, Shrewsbury 10k, the Railway Ultra Marathon, Lake Vyrnwy Half Marathon and Cosford 10k.

Claire said: “Steps are an amazing charity, they constantly give our patients and their loved ones so much support and guidance and they never ask for anything in return from us. It’s great to give something back.”

Claire has at least another 3 runs to complete for her challenge and will finish her events in April 2019.

“I’m just over halfway through my challenge and still have the Chester Marathon, Darwin Half Marathon and ASICS Manchester Marathon to take on.

“I’m also hoping to take part in the Virgin London Marathon too.”

A spokesperson on behalf of Steps Charity said: “At Steps, we value all our fundraisers who help us raise vital funds so we can continue to support children, and adults, with lower limb conditions.

“Claire is a true inspiration, a vital practitioner and an exceptional fundraiser.

“An extremely heartfelt thanks to Claire from all the team here at Steps; we wish her the best of luck with training and her challenge. We can’t thank her enough.”
