A DIY group has received a top award for its work on Denbigh high street.
Denbigh in Bloom (DIB), a gardening volunteer task force based in the town, scooped an Outstanding Award for its series of floral displays at this year’s Wales in Bloom awards, held on Saturday in Colwyn Bay.
The award, in the ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ category, celebrates up-and-coming ‘In Bloom’ gardening groupsAn Outstanding is the highest level available to contestants.a, recognises the work the group and its 26 volunteers have carried out in introducing 22 railing baskets and raised planters this summer by Greenfingers Garden Centre, Denbigh.
Lyndsey Tasker, chair of DIB, said: “We are absolutely stunned and delighted to have been awarded the highest level available for our entry.This is such a massive boost for all volunteers.“ It has given us the push we needed to enter Denbigh into the main ‘Wales in Bloom’ competition next year.”
In their assessment, the judges, who have viewed gardening groups across Wales, said the work is “some of the best this year” while “the works undertaken so far in the Temple Bar Gardens is starting a real transformation of a public open space.”
The group is continuing to work on its projects at Temple Bar Gardens, as well as eight raised beds on two Denbigh roundabouts, and has started a new project near Trewen.
