Dyfed-Powys Police have confirmed that Simon Thomas, the former Welsh Assembly Member for Mid and West Wales, has been charged with three counts of making indecent images of children.

He will appear at Aberystwyth Magistrates' Court at the beginning of October.

A statement from the police said: “Dyfed-Powys Police can confirm that 54-year-old Simon Thomas from Aberystwyth has today (September 18) been charged with three counts of making indecent images of children and will appear at Aberystwyth Magistrates' Court on October 3 2018.”

Simon Thomas represented the regional seat of Mid and West Wales for Plaid Cymru, which includes Powys, before resigning at the end of July this year.

He was also an MP for Ceredigion between 2000 and 2005.
