A man is fighting for his life after being struck by a car in Gwynedd on Monday night.

The pedestrian was hit by a blue Mini Cooper on the A487 at Garndolbenmaen shortly before 9.40pm.

He was taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor by ambulance and later transferred to the major trauma unit at Royal Stoke Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Sergeant Meurig Jones of the Western Roads Policing Unit said: "We are keen to speak with any witnesses who may have seen a bus that had stopped opposite the Madiha Tandoori restaurant and who may then have seen a pedestrian crossing the road.

“The A487 remained closed for several hours whilst officers conducted their investigations and I would like to thank the public for their co-operation during this period.”

The road re-opened shortly after 2am on Tuesday.
