A DEE Valley farm will represent Denbighshire at two national awards finals next month.

Rhug Estate, a farm that provides organic produce at its onsite shop and drive-thru in Corwen, will attend the Rural Business Awards finals following shortlists for the Outstanding Rural Diversification Project (ORDP) and Rural Employee of the Year (REY) categories in the Wales and North Ireland region.

The awards aim to recognise the best businesses in the rural sector and celebrate British countryside.

Lord Newborough, owner of Rhug Estate, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been chosen as a finalist in both the categories we entered in this year’s Rural Business Awards. The team is always striving to do better and that is how it should be. It is nice for all the team to receive such recognition like being finalists in this award for all their hard work and dedication. Good luck to all the finalists.”

The farm, which recently opened a drive-thru that provides sandwiches paninis, pastries and toasties from its organic produce, will stand for the ORDP category which commends businesses that have emerged from traditional, land-based work to diversify and create foundations for the future.

Speaking on farm manager Mr Jones’ shortlist for the REY award, Lord Newborough said: “Gareth has made a huge contribution to the overall success of Rhug Organic Farm over the last 25 years.

"Gareth's commitment goes further than his work at Rhug through his support of the local community and his pride in Welsh culture and language.”

The awards will take place in Abergele on October 16. The winners will attend UK-wide finals in February next year.
