A LOCAL theatre will showcase a contemporary staging of a best-selling classic novel and will reflect on life in the modern society.

Lord of the Flies, by William Golding’s, will be held at Theatr Clwyd, in Mold, next week but with some slight adaptations.

In the new productions, the children who are castaway on the island are all girls, as opposed to a group of boys in the novel.

Emma Jordan, director, said: “Like many, Lord of the Flies was a formative influence in my youth and it’s wonderful to revisit is, especially in our re-imagining of the story and from a female perspective.

“The exploration of humanity is at the heart of the novel and our contemporary take reflects a lot of the fractures and frightening world we are inhabiting in 2018.

“I am looking forward to creating a production which will be provocative, exciting and horrifying in equal measure.”

Lord of the Flies is a Theatre Clwyd and Sherman Theatre, Cardiff co-production and will open in Mold where local audiences will get to see the show first before it moves to Cardiff next month.

The female-led play will involve a dystopian feature where rules do not matter, and school kids rule and will feature actors from Benidorm (Gina Fillingham) and Call the Midwife (Kate Lamb).

Tickets can be purchased online at www.theatrclwyd.com or via the box office on 01352 701 521 and will be performed between September 20 and October 13 at the Mold theatre.
