THE Scarisbrick & District Armada will be paying its annual visit to the Anglesey Circuit next weekend.
On Saturday (September 15), the biggest ever 'Plop Enduro' event will take place at Ty Croes as over 100 Honda C90's take to the track.
The “Plop” refers to the Small Honda C90 machines which have been so popular over the years -
particularly as cheap commuter machines.
In 2012, a Motorcycle club in Scarisbrick, Lancashire hit upon the idea of staging an endurance event for teams of up to four riders, all of which must ride the Honda C90 moped.
Quite remarkably these humble machines can be converted into a respectable race bike too and with plenty of shed time, respectable speeds can be achieved.
On the first attempt at staging the event in 2012, Trac Môn were very happy to receive this new style
event, and the venue has since become a firm favourite with the organising club.
This year about 400 participants will be racing 100 bikes, in an event which is a little under eight hours in duration.
The race start will be gridded, but with such a huge field, the racers will be released in three
waves. Each team has to decide when it must stop for fuel and rider changes, so there’s never a dull
moment.
Each machine is fitted with a transponder which records time and laps. The outright winner is the bike
that completes the most laps before the chequered flag.
The Scarisbrick and District Armada MCC have in the region of 300 members to date and despite being
from Lancashire have members throughout the UK who try and attend at least one of the handful of
events staged each year.
The organisers are all volunteers and all proceeds are donated to local charities such as the Wales Air Ambulance.
The event on September 15 will begin at 9am and will run continuously until 5pm.
