Crimestoppers is offering a reward of up to £1,000 to find the culprits of recent arson attacks in Caia Park.

Last week, fire crews were called out to the Trevenna Way and Montgomery Road after a number of cars were set alight.

The independent charity is now working alongside the police and Crime Commissioner, North Wales Police and North Wales Fire and Rescue to try and reduce the number of incidents in the Wrexham estate.

They have put up a cash reward 'for information leading to the arrest and charge of those individuals who have been responsible for the recent arson attacks in the Caia Park Estate and other parts of Wrexham'.

Together with the offer of the reward, the charity will be running a campaign in the area to increase reporting with regard to arson and other serious crimes.

A statement from Crimestoppers said: "Wrexham has seen a series of arson attacks in recent years, with a number of cars, motorbikes, debris and foliage being set alight deliberately, and the charity is very concerned that after an initial decline in attacks after our last campaign in the area in 2016, that the number of incidents has risen again.

"Each year over 1,400 pieces of important information on crime in North Wales are given to Crimestoppers and we saw a record number this July of 171 - many of these were with regard to arson."

Gary Murray, North Wales Regional Manager for Crimestoppers, said: "A lot of great work has been done over the last few years by many agencies to help reduce the number of arson attacks in Wrexham so it is very disappointing to see the recent spate of attacks which have not only put families and homes at risk, but also firefighters."

“I’d ask local people to get in touch with Crimestoppers, completely anonymously, and give us the information that can bring those responsible for this crime to justice.

"With the public’s help we can make Wrexham a safer place to live and work.”

Temporary Chief Constable of North Wales Police, Gareth Prichard, said: “I very much welcome the Crimestoppers campaign. These recent incidents in Wrexham have impacted across the Caia Park community and I would encourage people to come forward with information.

“Don’t assume that it is insignificant or already known to us. The community has a valuable role to play and I appeal to them to speak up to stop these crimes.”
