More than 300 council employees have been given their first look inside their new £38 million offices in Colwyn Bay.

Work is progressing as planned and the first lot of employees will be moving into the Coed Pella building in October, with about 780 staff set to call the new offices their home.

Head of community development services, Marianne Jackson, and business manager for community development services, Angela Edwards, along with their team will be among the first to move into the new building in October.

Mrs Jackson said they were excited about the move and were looking forward to having so many council staff under one roof.

She said: "We are really excited. We will have the whole team in here and it will allow us to be flexible, move around between spaces, and share it with other specific areas.

"It will mean we are not confined and can communicate with other colleagues in other departments.

"It is the first time ever some of us will all be together."

Conwy County Borough Council (CCBC) office project manager and accommodation strategy Bleddyn Evans said the feedback from staff who toured the building last week had been amazing.

He said he was thrilled things had gone so well, with everything progressing as planned, and all the work done on the site being contracted to local businesses.

Mr Evans said: "There have been no issues, everything is running to the program. We have kept the same costs as arranged with the developers and we have done all this while helping the local labour pool.

"Bowmer & Kirkland have been exceptional in terms of their delivery of the project and communication throughout with the public.

"Also working opportunities they have created including issuing contracts to local companies has been fantastic."

The new offices is part of CCBC strategy which is aimed at centralising their resources, services and staff.

When they started the strategy in 2013 they owned 18 buildings across the county, that number, by this time next year will be down to three.

Mr Evans said council had explored spending money to do up other sites but building a new office in Colwyn Bay was the best and most cost effective option.

He said it will not just be CCBC employees who benefit from the new building but Colwyn Bay as a whole.

Mr Evans added: "We wanted to regenerate Colwyn Bay with the construction of this new building as well.

"We have already seen a number of new business coming into the town and we haven't even got to Colwyn Bay yet."
