WARNING: Graphic image of decomposed dog below

A decomposed dog has been found in a bush by a dog walker in Johnstown, Wrexham.

The distressing discovery happened on Thursday August 30, with the small brown terrier type dog being found near the old Bersham colliery spoil heap, near Bangor Road.

The dog was decomposed, covered in maggots and was wearing a maroon and white jumper.

RSPCA Cymru is appealing for information.

RSPCA inspector Tim Jones said: “This must have such a distressing discovery for the dog walker, but we’d like to thank them for contacting us.

“We’re not sure what happened to this poor dog, who had both of their front legs covered in dressings.

"There was no microchip found so we’re not able to find out who is the owner. The dog was wearing a jumper and there was a plastic bag and towel nearby.

“The dog was very decomposed so it was unclear if it was a male or female. The dog may have been there for a while, or a wild animal could have dug up the body.”
