LAST Sunday saw the retirement service at Christ Church, Milford Haven, of much-loved minister Rev Hugh-John Wilson.

Very much a 'local boy', he has been involved in the life of the Pembrokeshire churches for the best part of 30 years.

Hugh-John also serves as chaplain to Pembrokeshire Scouting.

But due to ongoing health problems he has made the decision to retire early.

Hugh-John saw the closure of Tabernacle United Reformed Church, and the uniting of Priory Road Methodist Church to become Christ Church.

He also welcomed the members of Waterston Methodist Church and Neyland Methodist Church, when they closed their doors.

This was by no means an easy task, and parishioners praised Hugh-John in the way he conducted everything.

"Christ Church has become a wonderfully warm and welcoming Church in the town of Milford Haven," said one, adding: "We will all miss Hugh-John as a preacher and friend, and especially his infectious smile.

"Of course, we do hope that from time we will have the pleasure of him visiting us to lead us in worship."

The Church welcomes their new minister, Rev Lorette Hinson, who they already know as she is minister to several churches in the south west Wales circuit.
