During the fire, at 9.48pm, the Holyhead RNLI Tweeted:

"Devastating scenes here in Holyhead. Our ILB (Inshore Lifeboat) has been taken to safety but this is awful to see. Please stay safe everyone."

Two fire crews from Holyhead, one from Menai Bridge and another from Bangor tackled the raging fire in a building - believed to be the old Trinity House maintenance workshop - and an aerial ladder platform appliance was used.

Fire teams operated four main jets and two hose reel jets to tackle the flames, and also used ground monitoring equipment. No one has been hurt in the fire.

It was brought under control by 11.50pm. The fire service today reports 100% fire damage to a property and also to a camper van parked nearby.

There was also heat damage to other adjacent properties and another vehicle.

North Wales Police county chief inspector for Anglesey Mark Armstrong, said this morning on Twitter:

“Terrible news this morning to see further damage at Holyhead Marina overnight following a fire.

“North Wales Police officers remain deployed in support of North Wales Fire and Rescue service ensuring public safety.”

A statement today from the island's AM Rhun ap Iorwerth said:

“I was saddened to hear of the fire at Holyhead Marina last night, in what has already been a difficult year for the marina and its users.

“I was pleased to hear that there are no injuries relating to the incident and my thanks go to all the emergency services who attended.”

A spokesperson for the North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: "As yet, the cause of the fire is not known, and there is still one crew still on site as more investigations into the cause are underway."

The devastating fire comes just five months after the marina was destroyed by floods.

MP Albert Owen, who lives in Holyhead, said: "

"I am informed that the fire at the workshop was quickly contained to the one large building and there was no reported casualties. I pay tribute to the emergency services for their professionalism.

"I have spoken to both the owners of the property and the port authority and they are awaiting an incident report as to the causes of the fire.

This is the second major incident in the area this year and I trust it will be met with the same strong resilience by those directly involved and the local community.

"I will work with them and others in the coming weeks in promoting the area for local businesses, the local community and visitors"
