FIREFIGHTERS are leaving Llantysilio mountain where they have tackled fires for more than a month.
North Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that firefighters were "scaling down" their presence on Llantysilio mountain, near Llangollen, as the blaze is "predominantly extinguished" after 30 days of fires, hotspots and flare-ups.
The service was first called to the grass fire at Llangollen on July 19 and crews have maintained a presence as the site ever since.
A spokesperson for the fire service said: "We are scaling our services down to the bare minimum.
"We have no fire appliances there at present [but] minimal staff presence keeping watch for hotspots and flare ups.
"However, we will maintain a presence there over the weekend and continue to monitor the scene."
Stuart Millington, senior operations manager for North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “Whilst there are a small number of hot spots in various locations the fire is now predominantly extinguished.
"Our crews will remain in attendance throughout this weekend and we will reassess early next week. Walking on the designated paths is safe but would not recommend venturing off the hard standing of the paths.”
