EMERGENCY services were called to a reservoir in Powys following the discovery of a car near the water.

Dyfed-Powys Police and Brecon Mountain Rescue Team were despatched to Llyn Brianne, near Llanwrtyd Wells, on Friday evening where they found an old Ford Sierra on the banks of the reservoir.

Rescuers found nobody inside the abandoned vehicle.

The summer heatwave has caused low water levels at Llyn Brianne, drying up the reservoir’s bank which revealed the car.

A spokesperson for Brecon Mountain Rescue Team said it took five minutes to reach the vehicle using ropes, then around an hour to two hours on the ground gathering information.

Brecon Mountain Rescue Team posted a message on Twitter saying: “An unusual call last night from Dyfed-Powys Police to investigate an old Ford Sierra exposed by receding water levels in Llyn Brianne Reservoir.

“Two members confirmed the vehicle had been there for many years and more importantly was unoccupied.”

Dyfed-Powys Police said: "We'd also like to thank the eagle-eyed visitor to Llyn Brianne who spotted it. We had a couple of calls."
