Oswestry Musical Theatre Company, the Royal British Legion and Marches School are joining forces to raise much needed funds for the two charities by staging a one show spectacular of Variety and Music Hall at the Marches School Theatre on September 2.

The show, based on a suggestion from one of Oswestry Musical Theatre Company's members, will include the music of some of the best loved performers of the time; Dame Vera Lynn, George Formby, The Andrews Sisters and many more.

Shropshire Community Fundraiser for the Royal British Legion, Jenny Robey said: "100 years ago the First World War ended, and a new world began. The example and experience of those who lived through it shaped the world we live in today.

"In 2018 The Royal British Legion is leading the nation in saying Thank You to all who served, sacrificed and changed our world. Arts and Culture were impacted by the experiences of a generation of poets, artists and composers who experienced WW1.

"We'd like to thank Oswestry Musical Theatre Company for raising awareness and funds for the Royal British Legion during this special year"

The show's producer, Phil Box said: "We are proud to be partnering with the Royal British Legion for this one performance show. The concept is very loosely based on the Good Old Days, a B.B.C. show which ran from 1953 - 1983. Featuring a number of solo, duet and chorus numbers, a little comedy and of course a bit of community singing, without which it would not be Music Hall.

"The Marches School has kindly donated the use of their Theatre for the show, enabling even more funds to be raised with 50 per cent of all the ticket sales going to the Royal British Legion. The other 50 per cent is going to Oswestry Musical Theatre Company, a registered charity in their own right."

Tickets are available now online at www.ticketsource.co.uk/omtc, priced at £12.00 for adults, £8.00 for children/ex-members of the Armed Forces/Womens Land Army and Timber Corps/Home Guard and members of the Merchant Navy (1938-1945).

"The curtain goes up at 3.30pm, though we will be opening the bar at 2.30pm to enable people to meet up and reminisce and for those who simply want to have a drink before the show or browse the Royal British Legion information stall," continued Phil.

"We really hope that this show will be well supported and help to raise as much as possible for these good causes, that said it is not only about raising money. It is also about raising awareness of the work the Royal British Legion and the support that is available to the brave members and ex-members of our Armed Forces."
