The trial of a 35-year-old man accused of the murder of Welshpool man Charlie Birch is due to begin in Cyprus on Friday.

Robert Birch, known as Charlie, 39, died after being hit by a car in an alleged hit-and-run incident in the early hours of June 24 while on holiday in Paphos.

The man will also be tried for the attempted murder of Will Pritchard, 32, who was also injured in the incident on the Peyia-Ayios Georghios road in Paphos.

A 23-year-old woman who had also been arrested had been released without charge earlier this month.

Local Cypriot newspaper sources report that she will be called as a prosecution witness in the case.
