MONTGOMERYSHIRE Friends Of The Earth are holding a family Bee Friendly Event at The Glanhafren Market Hall on Saturday, July 21, from 11am until 2pm.

People are invited to come along to help create a variety of bees and flowers to add to the growing display around the town.

This community activity is aimed at helping to raise awareness and celebrate all that bees do for us and could help win Bee FriendlyTown status for Newtown.

Mel Chandler, spokesperson for the group, said: “Thanks so much to all those kind creators who have been very busy making some wonderful Bees and Flowers

“Fancy joining in? Please do bring along your own Bee or Flower designs, join in the fun and learn more about how you can help make your garden or local area become a heavenly habitat for our little furry friends ”

Several cafes in Newtown are joining in the campaign and will be serving a Bee Aware dish throughout the following week made from ingredients from plants that are produced solely by pollination.

Bees are on a serious decline; 97per cent of flower-rich meadows have been lost since the 1930s. If UK farmers lost bees it would cost £1.8billion a year to pollinate their crops manually.
