DOZENS of people took part in Ras yr Iaith (Language Race) around the streets of Machynlleth.
The town was one of the nationwide stops for the race which was organised by Welsh language initiatives all across the country which started in Wrexham and finished in Caerphilly.
Welsh music and entertainment legend, Dewi Pws, handed the race baton to Machynlleth celebrity Aeron Pughe.
Dylan Penri, of Menter Iaith Maldwyn, said: “The event convoy was welcomed into Machynlleth at 4.30pm with the baton being passed from the Dewi Pws to Aeron Pughe.
“The run was then officially started by the Mayor of Machynlleth, Richie Gaskell, and we had more than 70 individuals, families, schools, businesses and clubs from all over Montgomeryshire taking part from as far afield as Llanfyllin. Thank you for supporting the event.
“We would like to thank everyone who helped us put the race on.”
The Ras yr Iaith aims to raise the profile and confidence of the Welsh language, promote physical health and strengthen local communities.
